The Australian Evangelical Apologetics Society, AEAS, was founded over twenty years ago in Sydney, with the primary objective of educating and training Christian to understand why Christianity is a faith founded on realistic and objective facts. Its secondary role was to challenge non-Christians to consider the broad evidential and historical foundations of Christianity, and the realistism and truth of the Gospe Message. This has on occasions let to public debates with leading atheists, skeptics and evolutionist, the initial landmark debate being between visiting AEAS patron, American lawyer Dr John Warwick Montgomery and Lawyer Mark Plummer, then President of the Australian Skeptics, debating on behalf of the New South Wales Humanity Society, as reported in the Sydney Morning Herald. The society has facilated further debates between leading Creationist scientists and hard core Darwinian scientists. Over the years the society has worked closely with leading Australian Christian organisations and is closely connected with the New Zealand Evangelical Apologetics Society, and acted to support well known visiting Christian Apologists. AEAS spokesman have been invited to speak at churches, Bible colleges, conventions, seminars, schools, general meetings and major universities, both in Australia and abroad. The primary aim of AEAS however remains the education and training of Christians in the presentation and defence of the faith, with visiting overseas Christian apologists regular contributors. |
